U.S President Barrack Obama stunned the cricketing world when the IPL Technical Committee named him the Player of the Tournament for IPL season 3.
The 5 member technical committee declared the unassuming son of a Kenyan farmer as the Player of the Tournament, for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international cricket, and that cool Diwali message by Obama doing the rounds of Facebook”
President Obama, who is the first sitting American President and non-cricketer to win this award, called the decision historic and a “call for action and powerplays”
“We got to stop spelling cricket with a K. I call upon all Americans here in the corridors of Washington and the streets of Chicago to use this historic moment to find the cricketer within each on us.”
On being questioned about the President’s credibility as a cricketer, Lalit Modi the IPL commissioner replied, “Arun Lal was never a cricketer in the strict sense of the word, and this award is but a reflection of DLF IPL season 3, in collaboration with Airtel’s commitment to take cricket to the land of Coca Cola, General Motors and Madison Square Garden”
Ratnakar Shetty, the Board President justified the timing of the award through a press release by saying “We understand that Season 3 is not yet underway, but having a Player of the Tournament gives the organizers time to customize the Orange Cap for the President with our partners Hero Honda”
