Poem - No Time to Lose

By Gaurav Parab

Shyam, a friend who used to say,
Sing and dance to your own tune,
Left late for home last Wednesday,
Left for home a moment too soon.

Shyam who lived each moment his way,
Left work and ran into some goons,
They stabbed him when he refused to pay,
Refused to dance to another tune.

I take the same road to home,
It easily could have been me,
He could be the one to mourn,
Each turn is blind – we just don’t see.

We were both the same age,
Last saw him two months ago,
Saw him next on the paper’s front page,
My heart felt empty – it then overflowed.

No ground to drop – only slippery sand,
I remembered the secret he shared,
The paper left my shaking hand,
She’ll never know how much he cared.

Its time to repeat I love you,
Its time to stop settling my scores,
Every sunset brings another clue,
Trust the wind and drop all my oars.

Every day brings another surprise,
Some happy endings some sad news,
Till the time I pay my price,
There is just no time to lose.
